“Around 1:30 this afternoon the New Bedford Fire Department received 911 calls for a vessel on fire near Niemiec Marine.

The crew of Engine 7 reported smoke coming from a docked vessel, “MADI J” and quickly initiated fire attack onboard the vessel. Engine 1 advanced a second hose line while the pump operators from Engine 1 and Engine 6 provided an initial water supply.

The Fairhaven bridge was closed to vehicle traffic in order to allow Marine 38 to respond to the scene. Due to a lack of nearby hydrants, Marine 38 was utilized to established a continuous water supply for crews to complete extinguishment.

Ladder 1, Unit 2, Unit 1, Haz Mat 1, DCS, Inspector 1, and Inspector 2 also responded along with Fairhaven Engine 1, Engine 3, Ladder 1, C-1 and C-2 to assist in the efforts. New Bedford EMS responded and transported one crew member from the vessel, for minor injuries.

The fire is currently under investigation.”-New Bedford Fire Department.
