UPDATED: New Bedford Fire Department battles massive Acushnet Avenue blaze with jumpers

UPDATE (Friday @3:00pm): The second deceased individual who died Tuesday as a result of a structure fire at 1305 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford has been positively identified as Wayne Bourdon, 63, who resided in the building where the fire occurred.

UPDATE (Wednesday @5:30pm): After crews began to carefully dismantle what remained of the building they found the remains of one of the missing individuals.

UPDATE (Wednesday @12:40pm): The deceased individual who died Tuesday as a result of a structure fire at 1305 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford has been positively identified as Manuel Moreira, 59, who resided in a fourth floor unit in the building.

No other decedents have been located at this time.

UPDATE (Tuesday @9:00pm): It has now been confirmed that one person has passed away from the incident. It is unclear if they died on scene or later from injuries sustained in the fire.

At approximately 3:15pm, Tuesday, New Bedford Fire and Police Department units received multiple 911 calls for a fire on Acushnet Avenue.

Upon arrival to the Rooming House on the corner of Tallman and 1305 Acushnet Avenue, units found the tenement building in an active blaze with large flames emitting from the back of the building. Fire Department Personnel immediately helped residents evacuate the building.

Eyewitness spoken to on scene, said there were people on the second floor who were jumping out of the building to avoid the fire. At least 7 ambulances were seen leaving the scene with injured people on board.
