New Bedford Fire Department battle two structure fires in the past few days

“The New Bedford Fire Department responded to two structure fires over the past few days.

The first one occurred shortly after 8:00am on Wednesday morning at 199 County Street. Engine 6 extinguished a fire in the first floor rear hallway with one hose line. The fire was contained to the rear hallway. No tenants were displaced from this fire.

Shortly after 2:00pm today, a structure fire was reported in the rear of 32 Social Street. Crews from Engine 6 and Ladder 3 extinguished a fire in a wooden bulkhead, preventing it from extending into this three-family dwelling. No residents were displaced from this fire.

No firefighters or civilians were injured. Both fires were investigated by the Fire Investigation Unit and determined to be accidental and likely caused by discarded smoking material.”-New Bedford Fire Department.
