New Bedford Fire Department responds to 13-unit dwelling, 10 displaced

“At 2:25AM this morning, New Bedford Fire Department Communications received an automatic fire alarm activation at 110 Eighth Street. This occupancy is a three-story, thirteen unit dwelling.

Upon arrival, of Command Unit 2, 911 calls were received reporting a fire on the third floor. Unit 2 reported fire extending from Side A of the dwelling. All of the tenants were able to evacuate the building, however a primary search was conducted.

Multiple hose lines were stretched to the third floor. Ladder 1 provided a transitional attack while Ladder 3 performed vertical ventilation.

Ten tenants have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross and NBEMA. NBEMS transported one tenant to St. Lukes Emergency Department for injuries sustained from a fall after exiting the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit. Engines 1, 6, 7, 8, Ladder 1 & 3, ISU-1 air supply unit, and Command Units 1 & 2 responded on a special alarm response. ”

No firefighters were injured. New Bedford Police Department and the Providence Canteen provided assistance on scene. One cat was found deceased and another was located which survived the fire.” -New Bedford Fire Department.”
