From New Bedford EMS on Dec. 20, 2018:

“Recently, New Bedford EMT’s and Paramedics responded to a call for help, a person had sustained very serious life threatening Injures from a very dangerous and unusual accident. Not only was the patient badly injured, Paramedics also had the added challenge of reaching the patient to provide lifesaving treatment as fast as possible. New Bedford Medic 1 and Medic 4 along with Firefighter’s from Engine 1 , Ladder 1 and Police Officers came up with a plan of action. Emergency room Doctors were contacted by Radio, Police and Fire Marine units along with additional Paramedics were dispatched to the scene. All hands were on deck and all New Bedford’s Public safety agencies worked together to save someone’s life from a tragic accident.

The patient was located, secured, treated and transported to St Luke’s where a fantastic team of Nurses, Doctors and Tech’s were on standby waiting for the patient to arrive. They quickly stabilized the patient and prepared for further transport to Rhode Island Hospital which is New Bedford’s closest level One Trauma center.

This call touched many of the providers that helped during the rescue. But we all wanted to do more to help the family. We reached out to each other and the community in coordination with St. Lukes Physicians group “Adopt a family campaign” and were able to raise close to two thousand dollars in various gifts to help the victim and their family during the holiday season.

We are happy to report while the accident was life changing, the patient is doing well and the family wishes to say thank you to all involved.

New Bedford EMS is very proud to work along side a great team of public safety and health care provides and we thank you for your hard work and compassion you provide patients every day.

Thank you for your generosity.

Merry Christmas”
