New Bedford City Council goes on record against Massachusetts becoming a Sanctuary State

In a 7-4 vote, the New Bedford City Council yesterday passed a motion “requesting that New Bedford City Council go on record against Massachusetts House Bill 3573 and Senate Bill 1401 which would establish Massachusetts as a Sanctuary State.” New Bedford City Council President Joe Lopes and City Councilor Naomi Carney co-sponsored the motion.

Councilors High Dunn, Derek Baptiste, Debora Coelho, and Maria Giesta voted against the motion. Councilors Ian Abreu, Naomi Carney, Joe Lopes, Brian Gomes, Linda Morad, Willaim Markey, and Scott Lima voted in favor of the motion.

In 2018, New Bedford State Senator Mark Montigny voted in favor of making Massachusetts a Sanctuary State.
