New Bedford Burger King employees, customers thwart robbery

This morning at approximately 11:20am there were two attempted robberies by the same male in the north end of the city.

The suspect entered McDonald’s at 1080 Kings Highway and went behind the counter in the drive through area pushing open a door and demanding money. Several of the store employees pushed him away and he fled without getting anything.

The suspect then went across the street to the Burger King at 605 Tarkiln Hill Rd.

He ordered a hamburger and when the employee went to ring it up, he reached over the counter and attempted to steal the cash tray inside the register. Several employees and customers came to the aid and were able to hold him down until police arrived.

He was subsequently placed under arrest by Officer Stephen Brown and will be arraigned later today in New Bedford district court.

Jimmy Brooks age 51 with a last known address of Jamaica Plain, Ma. is facing two counts of unarmed assault with intent to rob.
