Join us for New Bedford Ballet’s summer performance, A Patchwork of Dance, on Friday, August 3 at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 4 at 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. at the NBB Community Theatre, 2343 Purchase St. New Bedford. The approximately one-hour program will feature a children’s ballet, “Nana’s Quilt,” as well as originally choreographed works performed by advanced students.

“Nana’s Quilt” is entertainment for the entire family. Nana weaves the story of her childhood into a charming ballet as she relates the history of a very special quilt to her granddaughter. Under the direction of New Bedford Ballet’s artistic director, Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault, and New Bedford Ballet instructors Eugenia Zinovieva and Lauren Sylvia, the company’s young dancers interpret Nana’s personal history through dance in a story that both young and old can appreciate.

The program also features both classical and modern dance pieces choreographed by New Bedford Ballet’s advanced students and teachers. The first, Canon in D, is a classical ballet piece with original choreography by Erin Petitjean Allen. The second, Aeolian Harp, which explores movement and the rise of formations in space, is choreographed by Eugenia Zinovieva. The final pieces are incorporated in A Prism of Movement, a collection of modern and contemporary dances choreographed by New Bedford Ballet students under the direction of Ms. Zinovieva.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, students and children. All proceeds from this performance support the New Bedford Ballet, a non-profit organization. For thirty-three years New Bedford Ballet has continued its mission of providing classical ballet training for children and adults, granting scholarships, and educating the community in the value of the performing arts. Onsite student registration for the 2018-2019 school year will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 30 through Thursday, August 2 and again from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 28 and 29. Classes start August 30. For more information, contact the New Bedford Ballet at 508-993-1387 or visit www.newbedfordballet.org.
