“At approximately 1:45AM the New Bedford Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 124 Bonney Street. This structure had suffered damage from a previous fire in January of this year. This vacant three story wood-frame structure is also located in the center of the block.

Upon arrival, Command Unit 2 reported a heavy volume of fire with the fire already extending through the roof. A second alarm response was called for due to two exposure buildings in close proximity to the main fire building. Crews were able to stop the fire from extending to the exposures and contain it to the main fire building.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The occupants of the two exposed buildings were able to return to their residences. The fire is being investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit, New Bedford Police, and the State Fire Marshals Office. The fire is considered suspicious.

Assistance was provided on scene by New Bedford EMS, EMA, and the Providence Canteen. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Acushnet and Fairhaven Fire Departments. Excellent work Group B!”-New Bedford Fire Department.
