20-year old New Bedford man arrested again on firearm charges

“NEW BEDFORD – A local man has once again been arrested by detectives for possessing a handgun.

On August 23, 2023, detectives assigned to the “Organized Crime Intelligence Unit” were patrolling the west-end sector of the city and attempting to find a male with a warrant. The male, JOSUE DASILVA, 20, had severed his GPS anklet a week earlier and was now wanted.

At around 7 PM, Detectives Samuel Algarin-Mojica and Alan Kubik spotted DASILVA in Harrington Park. Upon noticing the officers, DASILVA was observed walking to a nearby vehicle and appeared to place an item on its floor. The detectives then approached him and placed him in custody. Upon searching the vehicle, Det. Algarin-Mojica discovered a .45 caliber Glock loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition on the floor beneath the front seat.

DASILVA was transported to headquarters and served with the arrest warrant. He was also charged with illegally carrying a firearm with a high-capacity magazine.

DASILVA was arrested in January of 2022 following a traffic stop around “Temple Landing”. At that time, he was found to have a 9mm handgun loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition in his jacket. That case was dismissed in New Bedford District Court later that year.
