New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park to host 1619 remembrance of the first enslaved Africans to North America

New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park will host an event on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 commemorating the 1619 arrival of the first enslaved Africans in English-occupied North America. The event will begin at 1:00 PM at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, 33 William Street. The event is free to the public.

At 1:00 PM the singer Candida Rose, poet laureate Patricia Gomes, and a local Choir Group will perform African American themed poetry and call and response spirituals. That will be followed by a dialogue with Park Ranger Rufai Shardow on slavery.
