“New Bedford’s Role in Building the American Offshore Wind Industry: A Panel Discussion”

On Tuesday, November 5th Mayor Mitchell will host German and U.S. offshore wind executives and public policy leaders for an interactive panel discussion from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the New Bedford Whaling Museum Theater. This public event will discuss the positive economic impacts the offshore wind industry has created throughout Germany as a result of pro-growth policies, examine the current state of the offshore wind industry in America, and discuss the critical policies and incentives needed to grow the industry in America over the coming decades.

The panel will highlight the importance of extending the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), a critical component for financing renewable energy projects in the United States, through a discussion about the positive economic impact of Germany’s national policy incentives to promote offshore wind. Industry leaders from the port city of Bremerhaven, Germany, a leading city for offshore wind development in Europe, will tell the story of how economic growth and jobs were created as a result of Germany’s national renewables focused policy environment over the last decade.

Leaders from the American offshore wind industry, including representatives from Cape Wind, Deepwater Wind, Fishermen’s Energy, Siemens and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, will offer a background on their efforts and how each will generate economic growth and job creation in the United States. Congressman William Keating will join Mayor Mitchell, additional members of the Massachusetts congressional and local delegations, members of the New Bedford City Council and leaders throughout the region in this important discussion.

The public and media are invited to attend the event on Tuesday, November 5th at 10:00 AM in the Whaling Museum Theater. To RSVP please email lcostello@nbedc.org or call the New Bedford Wind Energy Center at (508) 525-0408.
