The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center welcomes the renowned Moscow Festival Ballet as they present the timeless tale of Cinderella on Friday, May 6, at 8:00 p.m. The production brings to life this rags-to-riches fable in the tradition of grand ballet, underscored by its brilliant choreography, magnificent score and exquisite costumes from the Bolshoi era. Tickets from $27 to $47 are available at www.zeiterion.org, 508-994-2900 or at the Zeiterion box office, 684 Purchase Street, New Bedford.

The beloved fairy tale of Cinderella premiered at the Bolshoi Ballet in 1945 with music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by Rostislav Zakharov. This current version incorporates original choreography of Moscow Festival Ballet’s director Sergei Radchenko. “Cinderella” is the story of a beautiful girl whose step-family mistreats her, who attends a ball, loses a slipper and wins the heart of a prince. With a stunningly beautiful blend of storytelling, humor, splendid scenery and costumes, “‘Cinderella’ may be the best introduction for young people to ballet short of ‘The Nutcracker’,” says the Worcester Telegram. The Kalamazoo Gazette raves, “For this lover of classical ballet, no one can touch the Russian style, and Moscow Festival Ballet pulled out all the stops.”

The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet Sergei Radchenko sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company within the framework of Russian classic ballet. Leading dancers from across Russia have forged under Radchenko’s direction an exciting new company staging new productions of timeless classics such as Giselle, Don Quixote, Paquita and Carmen.

The Moscow Festival Ballet has toured throughout the United States six times and returns to the United States and Canada in the Winter/Spring of 2016. Since its inception, they have completed two tours of Europe, including capacity audiences at London’s famed Coliseum. The company has also performed with great success in Turkey at the Istanbul Festival and in Greece at the Athens Festival, and completed a two-month tour of Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Under the direction of Radchenko, the Moscow Festival Ballet continues to expand its repertoire. In addition to commissioning new works from within Russia and abroad, the company specializes in Twentieth Century full-length ballets such as Romeo and Juliet, Legend of Love, Stone Flower and The Golden Age. Radchenko has researched the original choreography and stage productions of several of Marius Petipa’s classic ballets, including new productions of “Don Quixote” and “Paquita,” and a recreation of Jules Perrot’s and Jean Coralli’s “Giselle.”

Tickets to Moscow Festival Ballet’s Cinderella are available for purchase at www.zeiterion.org, by calling 508-994-2900, or in person at the box office at 684 Purchase Street, New Bedford, MA. Box Office Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and two hours before each performance.
