“Please join us in welcoming the newest K9 to the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office: Officer Ryan Isherwood’s new partner, K9 Xeus (pronounced Zeus).

Xeus is a 13-month-old Belgian Malinois who tips the scales at around 81 pounds. In the fourth week of the basic training academy, he’s already doing amazing.

“We’re absolutely ahead of schedule,” said Sgt. William Dillingham, who is leading the training program for Xeus. “He’s a stud. He’s picked up everything so well already. He’s a fast learner for sure.”

Xeus has 12 weeks to go before graduating in tracking and apprehension. On Thursday, Sgt. Dillingham, Officer Isherwood and Xeus were training at the New Bedford Regional Airport with City of New Bedford Police Department (Official) K9 Officer Dean Lawrence and City of Fall River Police Department K9 Officer Marc Correia.

It’s bittersweet for Officer Isherwood to have a new partner. At 3 years old, Officer Isherwood’s old partner, K9 Xiro (pronounced zero), had to retire due to a medical condition.

“He’s fine. He’s going to live a long, healthy life but unfortunately he cannot be a working K9 anymore,” Officer Isherwood said of Xiro, who is now the family pet. “He’s amazing at home and he’s loving lounging around by the pool and playing with the ball and my family.”-Bristol County Sheriff’s Office.
