On Monday, May 10, Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) and Worcester Police located and arrested a suspect wanted for shooting two men in Worcester last month.
Members of the VFAS Central Team and Worcester Police detectives recently developed information that ANGEL GARRASTEGUI, 21, of Worcester, may be in the area of Stafford Street. Troopers and officers set up surveillance of the area and observed a man matching GARRASTEGUI’s description walk to a nearby store. As the man exited the store, the arrest team confirmed he was their suspect and converged on him.
GARRASTEGUI tried to run away but was caught and taken into custody a short distance away. He was transported to the Worcester Police Department for booking on the following warrant charges related to the shooting:
01. Armed assault with intent to murder (2 counts);
02. Assault and battery with a firearm (2 counts);
03. Carrying a firearm without a license;
04. Unlawful carrying of a loaded firearm;
05. Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling;
06. Use of a firearm in commission of a felony; and
07. Possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card.
The charges stemmed from an April 10, 2021 altercation at a party between one of the suspect’s friends and another group of men. Evidence suggests that during the altercation GARRASTEGUI fired shots at the group and struck two male victims, who survived their injuries.
