Sunday at approximately 10 p.m. a Massachusetts State Trooper assigned to the Troop D Community Action team conducted a motor vehicle stop on Pleasant Street in Brockton after he observed the operator of a Nissan Altima texting while driving. After the Nissan stopped, the Trooper approached the vehicle and identified the operator as DERRICK ROGERS, 36, of Dorchester.
While speaking to the operator, the Trooper noticed tattoos and clothing affiliated with street gangs known to frequent the area. After a short time, the Trooper returned to his cruiser to conduct paperwork. As the Trooper was writing a citation he observed ROGERS making strange movements while sitting in his vehicle. The Trooper immediately exited and ordered ROGERS out of his vehicle fearing he may be attempting to retrieve a weapon. ROGERS was removed from his vehicle without incident.
After a short investigation on scene Troopers located a large amount of cash as well as over 360 Oxycodone pills weighing approximately 50 grams. ROGERS was placed under arrest and secured in the rear of a cruiser then transported to the Middleboro Barracks where he was booked. He was later transferred to the Plymouth County House of Correction and scheduled to be arraigned today at Brockton District Court on the following charges:
โข Trafficking in Oxycodone; and
โข Improper Use of Mobile Device while Operating a Motor Vehicle.
