Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County, along with the members of the federal Homeland Security Investigations Boston Strike Force, on Friday culminated a several months-long investigation by arresting three men and seizing more than three kilograms of fentanyl.

The investigation, which began in late 2018 and targeted a fentanyl trafficking organization operating in and around Boston, involved multiple controlled purchases of the powerful opioid.

The investigation established that three suspects would be in possession of three kilograms of fentanyl on Friday. Suffolk SPDU Troopers and HSI task force members arrested the suspects at South Bay Plaza in Dorchester and seized three duct-taped bricks of fentanyl, each weighing just over a kilogram, in the men’s backpack.

The arrestees were transported to State Police-South Boston, where they were each booked on charges of trafficking a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Arrested were:

1. PABLO ALBERTO ARIAS HERRERA, 47 (turns 48 Monday), of Dorchester;

2. OMAR MEDINA-SANTIAGO, 31, of Roslindale; and

3. JULIO MISSAEL RAMIREZ PEGUERO, 26, of Roslindale.

During booking it was revealed that all three arrestees were subjects of outstanding warrants for narcotics offenses. The three men were held in custody over the weekend and will be arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester District Court.
