At approximately 4 a.m. yesterday Trooper Eric Harrison, assigned to State Police-South Boston, was patrolling Route 93 in Quincy when he observed a red Nissan Maxima being operated erratically failing to stay within any single lane. Trooper Harrison activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and stopped the Nissan prior to Exit 6.

Upon the vehicle coming to a stop Trooper Harrison approached it and identified the operator as NICK CORNAY, 19, of Holbrook. After informing CORNAY why he was stopped Trooper Harrison gathered his license and registration then returned to his cruiser to conduct an electronic RMV inquiry. It was discovered on scene that CORNAY’s driver’s license was suspended. Trooper Harrison removed CORNAY from the vehicle and placed him under arrest.

Upon securing CORNAY in the rear of a cruiser Trooper Harrison conducted an inventory of the vehicle’s contents prior to it being towed from the scene. A loaded Ruger 9mm pistol was located on the rear floor area behind the driver’s seat. CORNAY does not possess a license to carry firearms. Additionally the serial number on the Ruger was altered, making it difficult to be read. The firearm’s serial number was eventually identified which revealed the gun was reported stolen. Troopers also located large amounts of items containing marijuana in the vehicle along with $1000 in cash.

CORNAY was transported to the South Boston Barracks for booking. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $20,000. He was scheduled for arraignment at Quincy District Court on the following offenses:

1. Possession of a Firearm;
2. Carrying a Loaded Firearm;
3. Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number;
4. Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License;
5. Receiving Stolen Property under $1200; and
6. Marked Lanes Violation.
