“A superb team effort among various law enforcement agencies resulted in a successful outcome to a hostage situation in Holbrook yesterday.

As seen in the photos, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad deployed bomb techs and three robots to assist Holbrook Police and Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (MetroLEC) SWAT.

At approximately noon on Monday, MSP Bomb Squad Troopers Michael Rockett, Stephan McKay, and Stephen Sicard responded to Union Street in Holbrook. About an hour earlier, Holbrook Police had responded to 21 Union St. to execute an arrest warrant for NOAH R. HENNESSY, 31, who was wanted on six warrants issued from Plymouth and Norfolk counties.

When Officers arrived to arrest him, HENNESSEY took a female acquaintance hostage inside the apartment, barricading himself and refusing to let her leave. Police evacuated nearby homes and closed part of Union Street in an abundance of caution.

Once on scene, Troopers Rockett, McKay, and Sicard deployed three PackBot robot systems to help maintain situational awareness in areas where Officers, if present, could have been in jeopardy of being harmed by the suspect if he were armed. Using a Holbrook Fire Department aerial truck, an MSP Bomb Squad Trooper then deployed a robot into a third-story attic window, with assistance from a MetroLEC SWAT member, to determine if the suspect was in the attic.

The robot was operated throughout the attic as the Trooper monitored its video feed from the window and confirmed that the suspect was not on that level of the home. SWAT members and Troopers then entered the attic to deny the suspect access to that level from his location on a lower floor. Next, a Trooper and robot cleared the second floor in the same manner and further tightened the perimeter around the suspect.

The female in the residence was then able to escape unharmed through a back window. Police negotiators continued to make contact with suspect HENNESSEY, who surrendered peacefully several minutes later. In addition to the warrants, Holbrook Police charged him with new offenses of kidnapping and resisting arrest. HENNESSEY was held overnight at the Holbrook Police Department and was expected to be arraigned today in Quincy District Court.

This good outcome was made possible by a team effort, a sound plan, and appropriate use of technology. Thanks to all involved: Holbrook Police #metrolec #holbrookfiredepartment and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services (our partner agency, where our MSP Bomb Squad is assigned).
