“School is in session, and not just for kids.

The accelerant-detection K9 teams from our Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit recently completed one of its periodic in-service trainings. This one was held at the Dudley Fire Department.

Rigorous training ensures that the dogs and their handlers have the sharp skills necessary to determine the cause and origin of fires. The fire investigation dogs deployed to 370 calls in 2020.

In all, the fire investigation squad, which is based at the State Fire Marshal’s Office, conducted 563 investigations last year, 38 of them involving fatalities. Afterward, there was time for a class picture.” -Massachusetts State Police.
