Massachusetts State Police invite WWII Navy Veteran out for a training day

“The Massachusetts State Police were honored to invite WWII Navy veteran Douglas Bryant out for a training day in Rockport. The almost 95-year-old watched as our Underwater Recovery Unit trained in the quarry. Doug was eager to see the divers and equipment in action and how it compared to techniques and equipment he used. He also shared stories of how he started diving and time on ships.

As a deep sea diver Doug and his colleagues paved the way for how our teams do the work they do today. At the end of the day the Unit presented Doug with an Underwater Recovery Unit challenge coin, State Police patch, hat, and t-shirt. He said multiple times throughout they day, “This is one of the top 5 days in my life.” Our personnel in agreement, some said this is one of the best things they’ve been a part of since becoming a Trooper.

Thank you to Gary Bent, the Director of Veteran Services, for help coordinating this and thank you for your service Doug.”
