Troopers from the the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit and Brockton Police detectives on Friday evening arrested a Brockton man and seized various types of narcotics, including several baggies containing suspected carfentanil and a large amount of fentanyl.

As part of an investigation, State Police Gang Unit Troopers obtained a search warrant for a specific red Acura sedan and any occupants of the car, including ETIMILSON CABRAL, 18, of Brockton.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. Friday, Troopers conducting surveillance observed the target vehicle pull up to a home in Albion Street in Brockton. The male occupants of the car, confirmed to be CABRAL, entered the home briefly, then came out and got back into the car and drove off.

A Trooper stopped the Acura at the intersection with North Montello Street. Troopers had determined during the investigation that CABRAL’s driver’s license had been revoked, and he was placed under arrest. Troopers then showed him the warrant to search his person and the car.

CABRAL tensed his body in a manner that prevented Troopers from conducting a full search of his person. Troopers and officers brought him back to his home at Albion Street, and after explaining what was happening to the suspect’s father, CABRAL was strip searched in private. As a result of the search, police found narcotics hidden on the suspect’s person.

The search of the Acura and CABRAL’s person resulted in the discovery of the following:

-16 knotted twists of suspected fentanyl with an approximate street value of $470;
– 4 knotted twists of suspected carfentanil with an approximate street value of $100;
– 11 knotted twists of suspected crack cocaine with an approximate street value of $330;
– An electronic scale; and
– $340 in US currency.

Based on the results of that search, Troopers applied for and obtained a search warrant for CABRAL’s bedroom in the Albion Street house.

Brockton detectives and Troopers executed the search warrant on the room shortly before 9 p.m. As a result of that warrant, Troopers and detectives located a safe in the room; the safe was transported to the Brockton Police Station, where Brockton detectives opened it and located the following:

– 423 grams of suspected fentanyl with an approximate street value of $42,300;
– 87 grams of suspected cocaine with an approximate street value of $8,700; and
– $308 in US currency.

In the safe Troopers and detectives also found and seized five rounds of .25 caliber ammunition and six additional electronic scales.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid many times more powerful than heroin. Carfentanil, in turn, is an opioid that is many times more powerful than fentanyl.

CABRAL was booked at the Brockton Police Station on the following charges:

1. Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute;
2. Trafficking Carfentanil;
3. Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute;
4. Trafficking in Cocaine;
5. Trafficking in Fentanyl More than 10 Grams;
6. Unlawful Possession of Ammunition; and
7. Operating After License Suspension.

Seized narcotics and other items were secured as evidence. CABRAL is expected to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
