An altercation on Route 95 in Danvers this morning led to the arrest of a man on gun charges following a reported road-rage incident.

At about 7:35 a.m., State Police received a call from a motorist who reported that another motorist had brandished a firearm at him while they traveled on Route 95 in Danvers. The suspect vehicle was reported to be a grey, Nissan Sentra and was traveling northbound in the area of Exit 50. Troopers converged on the area and Trooper Patrick Haynes of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section located the vehicle traveling northbound in the area of Exit 52 in Boxford and stopped the vehicle near Exit 53 in Newbury.

With assistance from Troopers William Eiserman, Scott Grimes, and Steven Bucceri, troopers located a Taurus Spectrum .380 cal. pistol with a fully loaded magazine inside the vehicle. Based upon the information collected in the investigation, Troopers determined that there was probable cause to believe that the operator of the Nissan, MATTHEW MESERVE, 31, of Rollinsford, New Hampshire, brandished the firearm at another motorist while they traveled on the roadway following a roadway altercation.

Additionally, MESERVE was not duly licensed to possess the firearm. MESERVE was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:

• Possession of a firearm without a license
• Assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm)
• Possession of ammunition without an FID
• Carrying a loaded firearm

MESERVE was held pending $1,000.00 bail and will be arraigned in Salem District Court on Tuesday.
