On Sept, 2, the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit requested assistance from the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (MSP VFAS) to locate JARED SILVA, 26, wanted on warrants for distribution of a Class A narcotic, domestic assault and battery, and motor vehicle violations.

The MSP VFAS North Team worked a cooperative investigation with Chelmsford Police detectives, who were also seeking SILVA. Investigators developed information about locations that SILVA has frequented and vehicles he has used.

This morning (Thursday, Sept. 9), MSP VFAS Troopers, Chelmsford and Lowell Police, members of a US Marshals Task Force, and members of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department set surveillance at a residence of interest. Team members observed a man matching SILVA’s description get into a vehicle at the residence and drive away. Troopers and other investigators followed the vehicle, which entered the fenced-in parking lot of a business on Middlesex Street in Chelmsford and backed into a space. When unmarked cruisers entered the parking lot, SILVA accelerated out of the parking spot without warning and began driving at excessive speeds, searching for an exit.

With the one entrance/exit to the lot blocked by police, SILVA tried to crash through the perimeter fence, which was topped with barbed wire. That attempt was unsuccessful and the vehicle became disabled.

SILVA exited the vehicle and, as VFAS Troopers and other officers converged on him, surrendered.

During an inventory of the vehicle, a Springfield Armory .40 caliber pistol with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine, a large bag of suspected Fentanyl weighing approximately 30 grams, and a large bag of suspected crack cocaine weighing approximately 15 grams were located.

MSP VFAS Troopers and Chelmsford detectives also recovered a box of 9mm ammunition as well as an additional large bag of white powder, which is pending analysis. SILVA was arrested on the warrants, and multiple additional charges are pending.
