“Yesterday the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Association of Massachusetts, Taunton Police Department, and Taunton Fire Department came together to host a “Touch a Truck” event at East Taunton Elementary School.
Taunton Police arrived with their motorcycle unit and Carolina Skiff police boat. Taunton Fire displayed one of their engines. MSP presented members and equipment from its Underwater Recovery Unit, Mounted Unit, Special Tactical Operations Team Bearcat, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Robots, and a State Police Air Wing helicopter.
The real stars of the day were MSP Explosive Ordinance Detection K9 Pippin and Accelerant Detection K9 Macdonald; State Police Mounted Unit horses Amadeus, and Corporal; and MSP K9 Unit dog Rocky, who demonstrated his skills.
Troopers from the State Police Community Liaison Team and Taunton Police Officers invited Girls, INC., of Taunton, and READS Academy of Middleborough to spend the day learning about the capabilities of first responders as well as the tools and vehicles we use to accomplish our daily missions.
Thank you to East Taunton Elementary School for providing the space to host such a sprawling event. Continue to watch our social media spaces, particularly the events tab of our Facebook page, for notice of more gatherings like this one in the coming weeks and months.”
