Massachusetts State Police Investigate Double Fatal Crash on Route 95 in Attleboro

Today at about 1:25 a.m., Troopers from the State Police-Foxboro Barracks responded to a serious crash on Route 95 southbound, south of Exit 3 in Attleboro that resulted in two fatalities.

On arrival troopers found a 2018 Kia Soul crashed into the rear end of a 2007 Hyundai GST, trapping the backseat passengers in the vehicle. One of those passengers, a 23-year-old female from Los Angeles, was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The operator and sole occupant of the Kia, a 28-year-old male from Providence, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until next of kin are notified.

Preliminary reports indicate the Kia Soul was traveling at a high rate of speed in the right travel lane. For reasons still under investigation, the operator lost control and swerved rear-ending the Hyundai in the middle travel lane.

The Hyundai contained five occupants, three of them, a 23-year-old male from Berwyn, Illinois, a 23-year-old male from Providence, and a 27-year-old male from Daly City, California, were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment of injuries they sustained from the crash.

Route 95 south was closed for approximately 3 hours and traffic was diverted via Exit 3 with assistance from the Attleboro Police Department.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County.
