“On Thursday, November 3, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Massachusetts Environmental Police received a call from Harvard Police Department regarding an individual with a deer in his truck bed. The driver and his passenger had advised the Officer that the deer had been killed the previous day and they decided to collect it early that morning. The Officer observed information that indicated this may have been a fresh kill.
Within hours of the initial traffic stop, Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers were able to secure the deer. A Massachusetts Environmental Police K-9 unit also located a crossbow that was affixed with a night scope. During the course of the investigation, MEP Officers found that the individual had been arrested one year earlier for several deer hunting violations and was currently on probation. The individual was subsequently arrested, remaining in jail for three weeks while awaiting a hearing. The individual was released with an ankle monitor and ordered not to hunt.
Yesterday, Monday, March 27, 2023, both parties were arraigned for the violations that occurred in November of 2022. The previously arrested individual has been charged with untagged deer, hunting after hours, hunting from a vehicle, hunting with use of an artificial light, hunting with a crossbow (no permit), and discharge of an arrow/bolt within 150-feet of a roadway.
The accompanying individual was charged with aiding and abetting all those charges, as well as hunting without a license and no archery stamp.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police is working closely with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure these charges are prosecuted to the fullest extent.”-Massachusetts Environmental Police.
