“On August 4, 2021 Sharon PD was contacted by a victim in WA State who fell for the “your social security number warrant arrest scam.” She was instructed by person claiming to work for the Social Security Office using the name, Steven Whipp to send a FedEx overnight package containing $23,000 in cash. She sent this package to Shaw’s supermarket in Sharon, MA addressed to a Louis Edgar.
During our investigation Sharon Detectives discovered a second package containing $10,000 was also being sent to Shaw’s in Sharon, MA addressed to Lewis Edgar from a second victim from Santa Barbara CA.
These packages remained in Randolph, MA at the FedEx shipping center. Randolph PD and Sharon PD were able to arrest, suspect Utkarsh Thakur after he picked up the packages in Randolph using a fake CA driver’s license with his picture on it under the name of Louis Edgar. Utkarsh is being charged with multiple felonies.
During our interview with Utkarsh he admitted to picking up a package at Walgreen’s in Norfolk, MA under the same (Louis Edgar) containing $10,000 in cash (sent by a third victim from San Francisco, CA earlier that day.)
We also discovered an additional $83,183 in cash inside Utkarsh’s white Jeep Grand Cherokee.
