Massachusetts State Police and K9 Kody nab man following pursuit, crash

This morning at about 1:45 a.m., a man who failed to stop for police, crashed his vehicle, and then fled on foot, was tracked down and arrested by a trooper and his K-9 in Springfield.

Trooper Connor DeVivo and his Field Training Officer, Trooper Kaleshia Estabrook, attempted to stop a Honda Accord on Route 391 in Chicopee for a headlight violation and failing to stay within marked lanes. The vehicle refused to stop and exited the highway onto Center Street in Chicopee, at which time the pursuit was terminated. A short time later, troopers located the vehicle crashed and unoccupied in the Memorial Square Rotary at the intersection of Main and Plainfield Street in Springfield.

Trooper Kurt D’Angelo and his K-9 partner Kody arrived on scene and began a track from the vehicle. After tracking for about two blocks, Trooper D’Angelo and Kody located a man who fit the description of the operator. Upon further investigation, the man, ALEXI HEREDIA-ARROYO, 27 of Springfield, was positively identified as the operator of the vehicle and was subsequently placed under arrest charged with the following offenses:

• Failure to stop for police
• Operating under the influence of drugs
• Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
• Leaving the scene of a property damage crash
• Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
• Lights violation
• Marked lanes violation

HEREDIA-ARROYO was transported to Springfield District Court this morning for arraignment.
