“This past Thursday, Boston Police Department (Official) put out a BOLO for a vehicle that was involved in an armed robbery with a knife.

Around 2:25 a.m., Lynn Police Department officers observed the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle failed to stop for police. As the vehicle entered Nahant, their officers took over as primary in the pursuit.

Eventually, Nahant officers lost the vehicle in a neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, Nahant Police Department received 911 calls that the vehicle was abandoned in a front yard of a dead-end street, as the operator had fled on foot. Nahant Police requested K9 assistance and Sergeant Dave Nims of the K9 Unit responded from a paid construction detail.

On arrival, Sergeant Nims deployed K9 Echo on a track from the vehicle. Sergeant Nims was joined on the deployment by Troopers Brian Santry and Joe Lamusta both of the Revere Barracks. Echo initially pulled across the yard and wanted to jump a fence. The team went around the fence, down to the next yard and tracked down the driveway out to a street.

On the street, Echo appeared to lose the scent when she spun around and pulled back up the driveway to a row of trees and bushes attempting to jump into them. Sergeant Nims held her back and he observed the suspect lying face down attempting to conceal himself. Sergeant Nims made several K9 commands, the suspect complied and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was turned over to Nahant Police for booking on the motor vehicle charges and the vehicle was impounded. Nahant officers also located the knife believed to be used in the crime. Boston Police will process the vehicle and further investigate the armed robbery.”
