Massachusetts State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 91 in West Springfield

Last night, at approximately 5:10 p.m., troopers assigned to State Police – Springfield responded to numerous 911 calls of a single motor vehicle crash on Route 91 Southbound near the 10.6 mile marker in West Springfield. Upon their arrival, troopers located the vehicle off the left side of the roadway.

Preliminary investigation revealed the male operator, identified as Chun Hoi Kwok, 42, from Staten Island, NY was operating a 2001 Honda Accord when, for reasons unknown at this time, veered off the left side of the roadway and crashed in the median. Kwok was transported by West Springfield EMS to Bay State Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The Left and center travel lanes were closed approximately two hours.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers assigned to State Police Springfield, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section. Members of the West Springfield Fire & EMS and MassDOT assisted at the scene.
