The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has approved the Massachusetts-based pharmaceutical company, MariMed Incorporated’s request to start growing marijuana in its facility at the New Bedford Business Park.
The $14 million dollar facility has 70,000 square feet set aside for cultivation alone and additional footage containing a large testing kitchen. The company is expected to employ approximately 60 or more people and supply marijuana shops throughout Massachusetts. New Bedford, as a host community, will, of course, benefit from a cut of the revenue.
The company which also owns Panacea Wellness, a dispensary in Middleborough, was recently given the green light to sell medical marijuana and has applied to sell recreational marijuana there as well – something it hopes to do within the next three months.
There is no indication that the company has interests in a dispensary in New Bedford to sell either medicinal or recreational marijuana.
