Maria Giesta has announced her candidacy for the Ward 2 City Councilor seat being vacated by Steve Martins, who’s running for City Assessor.

She’s on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford, and also a member of the Day of Portugal Committee.

“I’ve lived here almost all my life, so I’m starting with what I know—and I know these neighborhoods. We need to heal the wounds that exist at the neighborhood level and find answers to the long-term problems impacting our families and friends. It’s that simple.  I plan to make a difference by being their voice at City Hall.”

“We will focus on turning around the negative impact of the opioid epidemic, improving the appearance of our streets and neighborhoods, slowing the continued rise of both personal and commercial taxes, and finding other solutions so we can get rid of the parking meters that hurt the residents and business owners in Ward 2.”
