Man arrested on drug charges after cocaine distribution investigation

An investigation by the New Bedford Police Department narcotics unit into cocaine distribution out of a State Street address led to the arrest Monday of a 25-year-old New Bedford man on drug charges.

Niles John Mello, 25, of 161 State St. Apt. 1, New Bedford, was charged with trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (subsequent offense.)

Police executed a search warrant at the residence at 7:39 p.m. Thirty grams of cocaine were seized, along with packaging materials and a digital scale.

Mello was convicted in 2012 in Bristol Superior Court for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
