This morning at approximately 1:40 a.m. the State Police Barracks in Bourne was contacted by Air Force security reporting that a vehicle with Rhode Island registration had failed to stop at the Bourne gate to the Otis Air National Guard Base. The vehicle speed off and turned down Estey Road where it crashed into a pole.

Troopers and base security took the operator, HAROLD LAMOTTE, 31, of Charlestown, R.I., into custody. LAMOTTE was transported to the Bourne State Police Barracks, where at one point in the booking process he became combative and tried to escape custody. Troopers subdued him and added additional charges reflective of his assaultive behavior.

LAMOTTE was charged with the following:

1) Failure to stop;

2) Negligent operation of a motor vehicle;

3) Marked lanes violation;

4) Failure to stop for Police Officer;

5) Speeding;

6) Resisting arrest;

7) Assault and Battery on a Police Officer;

8) Trespassing; and

9) Attempt to escape from jail.

The motive for LAMOTTE’s criminal actions remains under investigation. While the incident is being reviewed further, at this point we have no information to indicate that LAMOTTE is a threat to national security or has any nexus to terrorism.
