Because there is an open and very active police investigation of the issues surrounding the incident at the Jalice Café, the New Bedford Licensing Board has postponed the Emergency Meeting which had been scheduled for August 6th. The issues regarding the incident will be heard at the Licensing Board’s next scheduled meeting on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in New Bedford City Hall. In the interim, the Managers and Co-Owners of Jalice Café – Derick Pina Goncalves and Maria S. Sequeira – have voluntarily agreed to reduce their hours of operation – closing at 11:00 p.m. daily. They have also agreed to refrain from presenting any live entertainment and to refrain from hosting any special events on the licensed premises until after their case has been heard by the City’s Licensing Board.

“The apprehension of the shooter or shooters responsible for this incident is the primary focus of the police department. The involvement of the owners of the Jalice Café will be addressed at the August 25th meeting of the Licensing Board,” said Mayor Jon Mitchell.
