Nature lovers of all ages are invited to join the Buzzards Bay Coalition for a Bay Adventure at LaPalme Farm in Acushnet on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. Bay Coalition staff and an expert birder from the Paskamansett Bird Club will lead a group hike through fields and forests at LaPalme Farm, a 47-acre protected property on the picturesque Acushnet River.

During the hike, participants will watch for and identify birds as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count, an annual survey of North America’s bird populations. The hike will also include identifications of plants and animal tracks, and an overview of the Bay Coalition’s work to protect LaPalme Farm as part of the Acushnet River Reserve.

The nature hike is part of the Bay Coalition’s series of Bay Adventures: guided excursions that connect people with nature throughout the Buzzards Bay watershed. Participants should dress appropriately for a winter walk through the woods. Binoculars and field guides will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own outdoor equipment.

  1. Due to the forecast of snow and wind, we have postponed our bird count/nature hike until Monday, Feb. 18 (same time, same place). The freshly fallen snow will give us a good chance of seeing lots of wildlife tracks! We hope people can make it for the new date!
