“A fire alarm activation came in for 310 Kenneth Welch just after 10:00 am today. Engine 2, Ambulance 3, and Car 2 were in the industrial park at the time doing fire inspections. Engine 1 (call back personnel), Tower 1 (call back personnel), and Car 1 responded from the Station.

The nearby firefighters arrived quickly and began to investigate the cause of the fire. The alarm signals indicated to responders that the alarm location was coming from the right rear of the building.

Car 1 reported a burning odor outside of that area; firefighters made entry and encountered a fire involving refrigeration equipment. Firefighters donned SCBA and utilized multiple dry chemical extinguishers to put out the fire. Responders also de-energized the equipment.

Fire Prevention success story!

The Lakeville Fire Department is in year 2 of its revamped fire inspection program. The room where this fire occurred was inspected last year and found to be loaded with combustibles. Inspectors mandated the removal of the material.

Had this fire occurred prior to those improvements, there would have likely been a significant fire at this location. A fire that could have easily taken lives or injured people. A fire that would have shut a business down and put people out of work.

The property owners deserve high marks for installing improved fire alarm equipment recently. The new equipment allowed for early detection and for firefighters to know right where to go to extinguish the fire.

Occupants did not ignore the alarm and were evacuated prior to FD arrival, making responders’ jobs much easier.
Great job!” -Lakeville, MA Fire Department.
