“While you were sleeping…

1:56 am – A pickup truck failed to navigate the intersection of County and Highland Rd. The adult male driver was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

5:31 am – Firefighters were called to a Lakeside Ave home when a resident was woken by activated smoke alarms. The occupant of the home found the house filling with smoke and called 911. The Lakeville dispatcher alerted LFD and coached the caller through evacuation to the outside.

Firefighters arrived to find that the smoke was caused by a delayed ignition of the home’s heating equipment. Carbon monoxide levels approached 200 parts per million throughout the home. Responders, wearing SCBA, isolated the furnace and ventilated the home until air quality was safe.

Paramedics provided care to the resident, evaluating the person for CO exposure. The patient refused transport following the evaluation.

The Lakeville Fire Department would like to remind our community that heating equipment requires routine maintenance to operate safely and properly.

We would like to emphasize that functional smoke and carbon monoxide alarms likely prevented the injury or death of this Lakeville resident. Check and test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms today! For extra credit, plan and practice a home fire drill. You only get one chance to get this right!” -Lakeville Fire Department.
