Keith Middle School students Raquel Reis and Tevany Spencer, both of Grade 8, placed third in the Junior Division of the 56th Annual Massachusetts Region II Science and Engineering Fair last week. Their project, ‘Chemistry Behind the Dying of Easter Eggs,’ also earned the Bristol Community College/Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Region III Science Fair Committee Award as outstanding team project.

With their placement in the regional fair, Raquel and Tevany will head to the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair in June.

“Tevany and Raquel took a complex science topic and related it to real life to make it interesting, while also explaining the science that lies beyond what’s on the surface of an everyday situation,” said Superintendent Pia Durkin. “New Bedford will be cheering on our Keith Middle School students as they continue to demonstrate their knowledge and learning at the statewide fair.”
