“On Wednesday, Trooper Norman Stanikmas and his K9 partner Emma, Trooper Alexander Berry and his K9 partner Indy, and Troopers Patrick Robinson and Joseph Vella responded to a location in Shrewsbury to assist Shrewsbury Police with a missing elderly woman who suffers from dementia. The woman was determined to be missing at about 3:30 p.m. and troopers began their track at about 7:30 p.m., with no known “place last scene”.

Trooper Berry and K9 Indy began scouting the neighborhood, while Trooper Stanikmas and K9 Emma began scouting a wooded area. After about an hour of scouting, K9 Emma led troopers about 25 meters into a marsh where troopers located the woman who was chest-deep in the water. Trooper Vella was able to pull her up and out of the water so that she was now only waist-deep, while Trooper Robinson guided Shrewsbury Fire Personnel to their location. The woman was then transported out of the marsh and ultimately to UMass Lakeside in Worcester for treatment.

A life-threatening situation averted by great cooperative effort!”
