On Saturday, July 20, Trooper Nicholas Neczypyr, assigned to the Troop A Community Action Team, was on patrol traveling on the Lynnway South in Lynn. At approximately 11 p.m. Trooper Neczypyr observed an Acura sedan traveling without any headlights or taillights on, reversed direction, and conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Upon stopping the vehicle Trooper Neczypyr approached the driver’s side and identified four occupants inside. While speaking to the operator, a 17-year-old male from Revere, he noticed a bottle of liquor on the passenger side floor. Since none of the vehicle’s occupants were 21 or older they were all removed to secure the liquor. While removing the liquor Trooper Neczypyr located a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition. The juvenile does not possess a license to carry firearms. He immediately requested assistance and Trooper Christopher Ryan arrived a short time later to assist securing the four occupants.

Once the scene was considered safe Trooper Neczypyr issued Miranda Rights to the four occupants then began questioning them about the firearm. The juvenile operator admitted ownership belonged to him and stated he found the gun by a pond. When examining the firearm it was discovered that the serial number was completely defaced and unreadable. The juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to SP Revere for booking where bail was set in the amount of $75,000. Two other juveniles in the vehicle were not charged but were transported to the barracks where they were released to the custody of their legal guardians. The fourth occupant was 20-years-old and was permitted to leave the scene.

The juvenile was transported to a juvenile detention center in Roslindale where he was held until his arraignment today at Lynn Juvenile Court on the following charges:

– Possession of a Firearm without FID Card;
– Possession of a Large Capacity Weapon;
– Possession of Ammunition without FID Card;
– Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number;
– Person Under 21 in Possession of Liquor; and
– Motor Vehicle Lights Violation.
