“Earlier today Troopers assigned to the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section developed information that a man identified as GIOVANNI ACEVEDO, 47, of Woburn, who is wanted for six outstanding warrants for his arrest, was at a residence in Taunton.

Troopers joined Taunton Police Officers and Massachusetts Parole Officers and converged on the residence. ACEVEDO was observed in the driver’s seat of a white Mercedes sedan which immediately fled the residence, traveling over the front lawn and bushes, nearly striking officers. A Be On the Lookout broadcast was made to all area police departments.

Troopers began following the Mercedes onto Route 495 southbound, but were not in pursuit at that time. Several minutes later Troop Headquarters authorized pursuit of the suspect vehicle and assumed command and control. The Mercedes exited Route 495 onto Route 24 northbound then exited Route 24 northbound onto Route 104 in Bridgewater where it pulled into a Home Depot parking lot. The MSP cruiser did not pursue into the lot, but observed the suspect vehicle leave the lot at a separate entrance/egress and return to Route 24 southbound at which point cruisers lost sight of the vehicle.

At approximately 12:41 PM Raynham Police located the suspect vehicle in their town and began pursuing it. That pursuit by local police agencies continued through Raynham, Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and Hanson, however, ACEVEDO evaded capture at that time.

Approximately one half-hour later an unmarked MSP cruiser located the Mercedes on Route 53 in Pembroke and followed the vehicle (not in active pursuit) into Hanover. The suspect continued onto Route 139 in Hanover with the unmarked cruiser still following (not in active pursuit). The State Police Air Wing arrived shortly after and made observations of the unmarked cruiser behind the Mercedes. Hanover Police responded as well and initiated pursuit of the vehicle. Meanwhile, Rockland Police Officers were standing by at the town line, where they laid out stop sticks in the suspect vehicle’s path.

At the town line, Rockland Police Officers deployed their stop sticks in front of the Mercedes’ path. ACEVEDO then drove the Mercedes off the roadway, in an apparent attempt to avoid the sticks, which in turn disabled his vehicle near the intersection of Route 139 and Bishop Lane in Rockland.

MSP cruisers converged on the scene; ACEVEDO refused to exit the vehicle. Troopers and Officers established a perimeter around the vehicle and shut down Route 139 while they called in the assistance of the State Police STOP Team and Hostage Negotiators. After about 20 minutes, prior to the arrival of Negotiators, ACEVEDO surrendered and was taken into custody. He was transported to South Shore Hospital for evaluation. He will then be transported to State Police-Norwell for booking on the numerous warrants and charges from today’s pursuit.”
