Art-house luminary Isabella Rossellini reveals the surprisingly kinky and confounding mating rituals of insects and marine life in her one-woman, multi-media stage show “Green Porno – Live” on Saturday, May 2 at 8pm at The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, New Bedford. An actress, filmmaker, author, philanthropist and model, Ms. Rossellini has turned her Sundance TV original series, “Green Porno,” into a live performance that scientifically and entertainingly mimics animals in the art of reproducing. In what Ms. Rossellini called “definitely” the most unusual roles she ever played, the actress dons costumes of the insects and explores their mating rituals. The one-woman show, created by Ms. Rossellini and French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere, features puppets, props and projections in support of Ms. Rossellini’s signature storytelling. Although deemed the world’s most beautiful woman, she is not above sporting a unitard or zany costume to show us how houseflies and earthworms reproduce. “Green Porno Live!” is a marvelously bizarre dose of stagecraft.
Isabella Rossellini had a long career as a model, lasting 25 years, 14 of which as face of the Lancôme cosmetic company. As an actress, she is best known for films such as “Blue Velvet” and “Sailor and Lula” directed by David Lynch. She also worked with directors such as Robert Zemeckis in “Death Becomes Her,” Peter Weir in “Fearless,” John Schlesinger in “The Innocent,” Stanley Tucci and in Campbell Scott’s “Big Night.”
She is the daughter of the Academy Award-winning Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman (“Casablanca,” “Anastasia,” “Autumn Sonata”) and the groundbreaking, iconic Italian film director Roberto Rossellini, who made film history with “Rome, Open City.” Isabella was born in Rome and spent her childhood between Rome and Paris. She holds dual United States and Italian citizenship.
