PAY: $59,841 – $74,809

Manage Library’s art collection on exhibit, in storage, and on long-term loan; perform regular inspection, inventory, surface cleaning, label writing, etc. of permanent exhibits in the library; create and implement processing plans for uncatalogued works in storage; conduct biannual inventories of works on long-term loan; create object condition reports; identify and monitor preservation concerns; coordinate conservation; supervise interns and volunteers working with the art collection. Develop and manage schedule of exhibits; mount periodic changing exhibits in the Main Library, and biannual exhibits in the City Gallery (New Bedford Art Museum); research, select, matt, frame, mount, transport and hang objects; research and write interpretive labels; develop related programs, press releases, and other publicity material; when feasible, collaborate on periodic major temporary exhibits at the New Bedford Art Museum. Assist Special Collections Librarian with development and implementation of departmental strategic planning, policies, standards and procedures.

Master’s Degree in Art History, History, or Museum Studies. At least three years of curatorial experience or experience in a related field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Mandatory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Investigation) background check per City Council Ordinance effective May 14, 2013.

    Think about it…….the New Bedford library has an art collection so big, it justifies the services of a full-time art curator.

    How many city libraries could justify a fill-time, professional art curator?
