Governor Baker orders U. S. and Commonwealth flags lowered half-staff in honor of USMC PFC Francis E. Drake, Jr.

Please be advised that Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Friday, May 25, 2018, the date of interment, in honor of USMC PFC Francis E. Drake, Jr., (KIA, Guadalcanal, 1942) originally of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Remains of PFC Drake, who was killed on 9 October 1942, during the Third Battle of the Matanikau, will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA on this day.

These gubernatorial orders apply to:

1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls.

2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings.

3. All state military installations.
