Massachusetts Good Samaritan rescues short-eared owl being attacked by murder of crows

“Our hospital had the opportunity to help a very unusual visitor. This short-eared owl was found being attacked by crows on the South Shore of Massachusetts. A good Samaritan who saw the scuffle was able to recover the stunned owl and safely contain him until our rescue team could pick him up. Needless to say we were more than a little surprised when we opened the box and saw this endangered owl staring back at us.

Once in our care, the owl received a full work-up and was determined to be outwardly healthy. His blood work, radiographs, and physical exam were all normal and he passed a flight test with flying colors. We suspect he was just a little stunned and disoriented following the attack.

After a short recovery period, he was taken back to the area for release. We are happy to say he did great and this time there were no crows around. We wish him the best on his travels!
