Freetown man arrested for unarmed robbery, assault & battery

On Sunday, February 10, 2019, at approximately, 3:40 p.m., Freetown police officers responded to East Public Street for a report of an unarmed robbery.

The victim told police that he had just parked his vehicle in his driveway when he observed a male walking a dog along the street. The male then allegedly walked up to the passenger side door and began to look into the vehicle. The male observed cash on the seat, opened the door, and allegedly grabbed the cash. The suspect allegedly punched the victim in the head as the victim attempted to regain control of the cash. Once the male was no longer in the vehicle, the victim locked the doors and called the police. The male then began to punch and kick the vehicle.

Patrolmen Christopher Medeiros and Nathan Melo observed the male standing nearby and took him into custody. He was identified as Steven Bernard, age 54, of East Freetown, and was charged with the following crimes:

– Unarmed Robbery
– Assault & Battery
– Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle
– Disorderly Conduct

Bernard is scheduled to be arraigned at the Fall River District Court.
