Fort Taber Fort Rodman Military Museum events for 2016 announced

There will be several important events at the Fort Taber Fort Rodman Military Museum at the end of April, in May and in June.

On April 24th will be the annual Exercise Tiger event at 1:00 pm at Fort Taber Fort Rodman.

On April 30th will be the Civil War Artillery Drill. On Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm the Battery B 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery of the Rhode Island State Militia will spend the morning at the Fort conducting the 1860’s drill using their original James Rifled Cannon.

The weekend of May 7th and 8th will be the World War I re-enactment. It is the 3rd annual World War I encampment at the Fort to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War. The Fort will be open to the public on Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be displays and period military drills. Free admission to the public.

On Wednesday, May 4th at 7:00 pm at the museum will be an author talk and book signing with Sven Beckert for his book “Empire of Cotton.” The book was named one of the top ten books of 2015 by the New York Times and was the winner of the Bancroft Prize. It tells the epic story of the rise and fall of the empire of cotton. Mr. Beckert is the Laird Bell Professor of American History at Harvard University and holds a PhD from Columbia University. He has written widely on the economic, social, and political history of capitalism. Members $12 and Non-members $14 and books will be available for purchase and signing.

On June 11th will be the 17th century Militia Drill and the weekend of June 25-26 will be the World War II re-enactment.
