UPDATE: Dartmouth Public School released the following statement on Facebook:

“This morning around 7:30 a.m. bus 18, carrying middle and high school students, was hit by a deer while traveling on Chase Road. Emergency personnel and school department staff arrived on the scene. Students were taken to St. Luke’s for evaluation. School based administration accompanied them to the hospital. Upon arrival medical personnel assessed and treated students as appropriate. A district-wide alert was sent out and the administration from the middle and high schools contacted parents of children who were on the bus. Five students were treated for minor injuries and all others were released to parents or returned to school with parent permission.

We understand the bus driver did sustain some injuries but is doing well. We are very grateful for his effort to ensure our students remained safe. His concern for our children was obvious.

We would like to thank all involved in helping us during this incident including emergency personnel at the scene, hospital staff, Tremblay’s Bus Company, district administration and our maintenance and nursing staff. Many hands ensured all students received appropriate care!”

According to Dartmouth police, a deer was hit by a car and launched into a Dartmouth public school bus at 494 Chase Road around 7:12 am on Tuesday.

Police report 5 minor injuries to the school bus driver and four students. The bus was full of middle and high school students at the time. The deer did not survive the accident.
